The government was quick to announce the discovery of bird flu in Egypt. The cabinet has held an emergency meeting to discuss means of containing the disease.

Cairo has upped the level of alertness in all governorates with the purpose of preventing the spread of the virus. It has also launched a public awareness campaign on the symptoms of the deadly disease.

People are urged to cooperate with the government. They are called upon to listen to its advice on protecting their poultry from getting in contact with migrating birds. Owners of poultry farms are also urged to immediately report new cases of the bird flu.
