A new human bird flu case was reported in Egypt Friday 31/7/2009.
A year-and-a-half-child, from Shbein El-Koum, Menufiya governorate, tested positive for the virus, said Amr Qandeel, the Health Ministry's Undersecretary for Protection Affairs.
The child showed bird flu-like symptoms on July 28 and was admitted to hospital and given anti-viral Tamiflu vaccine.
The new case raises the number of bird flu cases in Egypt to 83 since the virus first appeared in the country in 2006.
