Egypt confirmed on Tuesday 10/03/2009 a new human bird flu case in Menoufeya governorate, a spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population said.
Abdel-Rahman Shahin said Habeba Mahmoud Mohamed, aged one year and a half, contracted the virus from infected birds.
The child showed symptoms of infection on Friday.
She was admitted to hospital on Monday 09/03/2009, suffering from high temperature and cough.
She was given the antiviral vaccine Tamiflu.
The new case brings to 58 the number of human bird flu cases in Egypt since the virus was first detected in March 2006.
